Toby’s new space – Ikea Mydal Bunk Bed Hack

Back again, this time sharing a few pics of my little boys recent room update. In the middle of last year I sold his single bed and had been searching for a second hand bunk before realising that it was going to be more affordable to simply buy a basic IKEA Mydal bunk bed.

Both Toby and Indi were my little helpers during the assembly, and to be honest, opening up ALL of those tiny pieces gave me an instant migraine!!! But, with the help of  a few tunes playing we finally assembled it!

To give it more of a designer look, i simply painted a couple of the wooden panels in a crisp white with a few duck egg blue accents. If it was up to me, I would probably skip the duck egg blue and just keep the white accents, however Toby loves the touch of blue and it’s his space so the blue accents are staying!

I also moved the IKEA Trava chest of drawers into the room to tie in the wooden tones. The top panel of this Trava unit was originally pink from when I hacked it a few years ago which you can check out here. 

To help minimise costs I finished the look by accessorising with a few Kmart throw pillows. I also scoured the ‘clearance’ section of a few of my favourite bedding stores. I found both the bed covers on sale for around $18 each – one was single, the other double but since the sides can ‘tuck in’ the difference in size was not an issue. 

My little boy is stoked with his new bunk bed, and sleepovers have been a hit. He loves playing on the top bunk with his friends (so does Indi) and it is so nice to see him so happy and grateful with his new space.
