So last week there was a little decal love happening in Indi’s room, this week it was my little leo’s turn to get a little MIMI’lou magic sprinkled in his room.

But, to keep things a little more interesting, this time I’m also popping on my teacher hat to share a few kids bedroom ideas of how to use these decals (and other kids every day decor items) to help build conversation skills, develop vocabulary and ignite the imagination in children.

Why? Well because I know we all love cool decor to create a stylish room, but hey, if we can use this same decor to help our little ones learn and grow too, then double bonus!

But before we go there, let’s first focus on the MIMI’lou decal … L’Ours acrobate.

From the beautifully intricate detail, to the cool vintage vibe, this loveable little acrobatic circus bear has the PERFECT pop of colour to add a bit of happy to any child’s interior space.

While this decal complements a boys bedroom perfectly, this classic design would suit both genders equally and the fun, playful design also makes it well suited to a baby’s nursery.

KIDS BEDROOM IDEAS
HOW TO USE A SIMPLE DECAL TO IGNITE IMAGINATION IN CHILDREN:

WISHING STARS:
With it’s immediate sense of whimsy and wonder, this ‘circus bear’ decal allows itself for the perfect night-time bedroom ritual I like to call ‘wishing stars‘.

When my girls were younger I had hand painted a ‘wishing tree’ in their bedroom (which I since painted over – sigh). Every night before bed, we had a little night time ritual of finding a polkadot on the ‘wishing tree’ and making a night-time wish to whisper away to the stars.

It was such a sweet little routine and it would open up many conversations about wishes, hopes and dreams. We would talk about the different types of wishes we can make, and how it is nice to wish for things for others, instead of wishing for ‘stuff’. For example, “I wish my friends have a happy day,” “I wish Indi has a fun at daycare,” or “I wish my dad gets a good nights sleep”.

TOO CUTE!

This same principle can be applied to the magical stars sprinkled around the circus bear decal, or any print or object you may have in your room related to stars. If there are no stars about, either look straight to nature and have a glance in the night sky, or use one of your child’s favourite teddies and introducing them as the magical ‘wishing teddy’.

STORY TIME MAGIC:
Developing a child’s story telling skills is a great way to ignite their imagination, build vocabulary, learn about characters and story setting, and develop their ability to sequence events. If they are too little to create their own story time adventure, you could try to create one together, or even as a family.

Using the circus bear decal as a starting point, try to create a night time adventure of where the circus bear may be going, where he has been or what he has seen.

If you are not sure how to start, just go to the classic story starter –  “Once upon a time there was a (friendly, cheeky, mishievieous, naughty, lonely) circus bear called_____  and one night, when all the stars were twinkling in the sky he went on an adventure….” or “The sun was shining and the day was bright when _____ the Circus Bear decided to _____…”

By asking your child to help you describe the bear or the things he may see, you are helping them develop their vocabulary and conversation skills while also sparking their creativity. After you have finished telling your story, discussing little things that happened and asking your child to share their favourite part can also help to build comprehension skills.

To keep things interesting, you can incorporate your child’s other favourite toys or teddies as characters into the story and use other bedroom items as props. The possibilities are endless!

If a magical circus bear isn’t your thing (Whaaaaat? – that’s crazy!), then MIMI’lou also creates some other pretty cool decals in the form of flamingos, bunnies, kittens, hot air balloons, the list goes on!
